How do I calculate occupancy?

Published October 1, 2026 · 1 minute read

The answer

Divide booked nights by the available nights defined for the analysis. Some comparisons use all calendar nights, while others exclude owner or maintenance blocks. These approaches can produce different percentages for the same home.

State the denominator so another person can interpret the figure. Occupancy alone does not measure profitability, especially when bookings are won through heavy discounts.

This answer is general education. Apply it to the property's actual location, agreements, and circumstances. Where a decision requires professional advice, use a qualified adviser.
