What is the difference between zoning and a hosting permit?

Published October 1, 2026 · 1 minute read

The answer

Zoning addresses permitted land use, while a hosting permit or registration addresses requirements for operating a particular activity. The local terminology and relationship vary. Satisfying one does not necessarily satisfy the other.

Ask the authority which approvals apply to the address and operating model. Avoid relying on a general business registration as evidence that a particular accommodation use is authorized.
