How should I record owner withdrawals?

Published October 1, 2026 · 1 minute read

The answer

Record transfers to owners distinctly from operating expenses and use the treatment appropriate to the entity and circumstances. Keep evidence and reconcile them with cash records. A withdrawal reduces available cash but does not automatically reduce accounting profit in the same way as a service expense.

Clear separation helps you understand both performance and liquidity. Consult your accountant on the correct classification.
